At First Baptist Church we believe that each member is called to be a disciple of Christ. As a disciple each person is called to be like Christ (Luke 6:39-40). They are to be led by God, grounded in the Word, and strive to be more like Him daily (Luke 9:23-26; 2 Tim. 2:14-17a; Gal. 5:22-26).
As a Disciple each person should exhibit lifestyle characteristics that show the character of God through a lifestyle of Grace, Going, Healthy Relationships, Obedience, and Worship. Through Grace we G.R.O.W.
Lifestyle of Grace:
Our salvation was based on the grace of God and not by any merit or work done on our part. Therefore, our lives should be marked by the same characteristic of grace towards all mankind (as we interact with people daily). Eph. 2:8-9
Lifestyle of Going:
Disciples are those who have been rescued by God. As such we are called to be ambassadors of the same grace to the world around us, from the red hills of Mississippi to the ends of the earth. (Col. 1:13; Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:18-20)
Lifestyle of Healthy Relationships:
As our relationship with God was restored through the work of Jesus, we are called to have healthy relationships with those around us. As disciples we are called to maintain relationships with fellow believers in truth and love for our mutual benefit and to interact in grace with those still separated from God. (I Cor. 1:10; Col. 3:12-14; Eph. 4:15-16; Rom. 10:14-15)
Lifestyle of Obedience:
As disciples we are called to know the Word and to allow it to affect every aspect of our lives. Our love for God is displayed to the world through our striving to live obediently to the inspired Word of God. (John 14:15)
Lifestyle of Worship:
A disciple's spiritual act of worship is giving God the glory due Him in every facet of our lives. We do this as a church family and corporately through appointed times of worship We do this as individuals as we live obedient lives surrendered to our Christ. (Rom. 12:1; Heb. 10:25)
